Cardiac Rehabilitation

Our cardiac rehab is a program designed to help improve your overall health condition, but most specifically your cardiorespiratory and cardiovascular system.

Cardiac Rehabiliation Program

A physician referral is required prior to registering for this program.

This program typically consists of three phases:

Phase One

Inpatient hospital cardiac rehab is designed to help you get back on your feet before being discharged from the hospital.  This program includes functional activities such as upright sitting tolerance, transfer from sit to stand and vice versa, and basic range of motion exercises.  Your physician will be monitoring you during this time, checking for disturbances in your heartbeat that can be normal following surgery.

Phase Two

After you are discharged from the hospital, you will most likely be referred by your physician to an outpatient physical therapist that also specializes in cardiac rehab.  In Phase 2, you will be examined and evaluated by an experienced physical therapist who specializes in cardiorespiratory and cardiovascular rehabilitation.  An advanced level cardiac rehab program will be designed specifically for you after the evaluation.  During this program, you will most likely be monitored by devices that will keep track of your heart rate, blood pressure, and arterial oxygen saturation to ensure that you stay at the appropriate exercise level.  A graduated weight-training program will also be implemented to improve the condition of your musculoskeletal system.  This phase typicaly lasts about 2 months before you can progress to the next phase.

Phase Three

After you have completed Phase 2 and your heart rate grows more stable and you feel you are able to exercise on your own, your physical therapist will recommend a detailed home exercise program designed to help you maintain or increase your physical fitness level.  The goal in this phase is to ensure your health is at a level where your risk of experiencing another heart attack is at its lowest.  This phase typically lasts about 6 months to a year
